Spring Election?

That people here in Canada continue to see the Carney government as the means to save Canada is simply remarkable to me. Just the past couple days gives us startling news items regarding Carney and his inability to understand what being a leader in Canada is all about. I am more convinced than ever that we are headed for a spring election. You may ask why I think this way, here is my reasoning.

We have seen and read over the past several elections, reports of the interference of the Chinese in our democratic selection of governments. No great surprise in this reporting. Great power interference in elections goes on all the time. The price of democracy is knowing that outside influences are endemic to the process.

The heat Chinese exodus from Hong Kong in the 1990’s prior to the return of political power to China from the UK brought 100s of thousands of new Canadian to our shores, connected to millions more still on the island or in Kowloon on the mainland. Since then many 100s of thousands more have emigrated to Canada, both as a place to live and as a safe harbour for their cash.

In all cases, the emigres leave family behind still in China which provide leverage against the expats. If Canadian MPs can be subject to this leverage as in the case of Conservative MP Michael Chong, its not to hard to imagine that the everyday folks that make Canada their home now and can vote in a federal election can be persuaded cast their ballot the way the CCP wants them to. Not coincidentally was the news released that the CCP has set up its own police stations in Canada to monitor expat activity.

How does this implicate Carney in a plan to hold a spring election? It does not unless you then add in the odd timing of the visit to China and the meetings with President Xi. The announcement of the easing of trade that certainly would not been seen as favourable by the US, elbows up, was the harbinger. Knowing in the background that Xi via the Bank of Chin has enriched Carney through a $275 million infusion into Brookfield seems somewhat reminiscent of finding out that a book Trudeau wrote was published by a Chinese publisher controlled by the CCP with a hefty up front bonus for the boy wonder.

Coordination of plans? Is Carney beholden to the CCP and Xi? Is China better served with a Liberal government or Conservative one?

Grocery prices in Canada continue to rise alarmingly. Remarkably for a country that has immense amounts of farmland and a rich history of cattle, hog and chicken production prices of thee basic commodities are reaching record prices. One would assume that with prices rising so rapidly and to such heights would entice farmers to enlarge their herds or flocks. Is it a herd of pigs? Maybe a drove or a passel, regardless, these are not dramatically growing which tells me that the farmer is not receiving the real benefits of this inflation.

The food inflation can be tied to the continued rising costs of energy.Which, given the crash of both oil and gas commodities this past year, can only be attributed to taxes and levies from the government. Fuel taxes, surcharges and taxes on fertilizers all raise costs for farmers which must be passed on. Then those fuel taxes and surcharges get added to shipping costs and so by the time the food gets to the store the costs to get it there nd produce it have driven the price, not profiting by the grocery stores or farmers.

People are hurting because of this. So what does our benevolent leader do? Do he eliminate all the taxes and surcharges on oil and gas and their bi-products such as fertilizer? Nope, we get a targeted wealth transfer to the lowest quartile of the population, a gift of a couple hundred dollars a year from Papa Mark to defray the cost of groceries. By the way delivered in early June. Vote for me or those nasty Conservatives will take away your grocery rebate.

Then we have Mark Carney, statesman, giving this wonderfully lauded speech at the World Economic Forum. After leaving his meeting with Xi. A speech about a New World Order. How many times must we hear this term coming out of Davos. Every time I hear this term it makes me think of the N.W.A. song, ‘Fuck the police,’ which coincidentally seem to be the battle cry of the politically retarded folk who follow this New World Order philosophy.

The announcements with China coupled with the Davos speech were all about the theatre of standing up to Orange Man Bad. For Carney to hope for a majority in a spring election the fear of the US must be amped as high as possible. Strange lately how there are many stories of how Canada is developing defence plans for a US invasion. As if we would be able to defend against a lightning strike from Fort Drum on Ottawa. Within an hour of the go button being pressed in Washington, Carney would be trussed tighter than a Canada goose at Thanksgiving.

So it’s all about amping up the rhetoric that the election is about the big bad US, not the big bad deficit and lack of direction for Canada. It worked once, surely it can work again.

And then you have the photos of fearless leader with feckless leader her in Etobicoke Ontario grabbing a slice of pizza. Just two chums chatting about Orange Man Bad over Pizza Nova’s finest. Just a week ago Dougie was losing his shit regarding the Carney deal that would tank all the auto jobs in Ontario. But now all is well, pizza for all. Ontario is the key to a Carney majority. Doug must be ameliorated for any chance at all of a win.

Lastly this past weekend had Carney deliver a sheath about unity on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City.A speech that most of the converted across the country thought wonderful. Except if you live in Quebec, and were a Quebecoise. Then you were mighty offended by the staging and the verbiage about how Canada developed out of the lose of the battle of the Plains of Abraham. A battle only won after several loses by the British forces under James Wolfe. The winning tactic was the raising of several French towns with threat of burning more that led to the victory by the British. Not a good memory to invoke if good wishes of the French are desired.

Maybe enough French speaking immigrants have been imported to Quebec to offset the Quebecoise vote keeping the province in the win column for the Liberals.

And now what of this potential thawing of the frosty relations with India. Has Carney really pulled a rabbit out of his hat with a comprehensive trade deal with them? Has he actually quelled the voice of the Sikh independence movement in his party? Or is the rumoured energy deal with India just smoke and mirrors. Well given there is no pipeline to the East Coast from Alberta and the deal is with Irving Oil, it seems unlikely to be more than noise. But there is the underlying talk of a nuclear deal for both new generating capacity and fuel supply which would be spun as a Canada positive and not be discussed as a Carney/Brookfield wealth generation ploy.

Lots of speculation to be sure. If more is announced I will be certain to muse about it in future posts. Right now I’d be betting 60/40 its a go for a spring election.
