Breakfast of Champions
The latest in the ongoing studies about what is and what is not good for you you to eat is one from McMaster University regarding the benefits of eating red meat. Intuitively this is something I knew all along, that eating animal proteins is both healthy and helpful, the study showing a reduction of cancers in those who eat higher levels of red meat.
Also if you read the studies regarding how grilling meat potentially increases the risks of cancer through two pathways, HCAs which are the result of cooking any way not just BBQ and PAHs which are in smoke and may or may not attach to the meat. Which when you boil it down says maybe, maybe not BBQ is bad. When combined with the McMaster study suggests, not bad!
The McMaster study also speaks about eating processed meats, which I do know have issues when considering salts in the diet, yet are not related to increases in cancers. In fact as with all red meats, they may help reduce cancers. Which is mighty good news for someone who loves bacon at breakfast!
My diet is one of low carbs. Many years ago I notice how much better my heart felt when I limited carbohydrates. I would generally have more energy and less water retention. I talked about this with my cardiologist and he suggested that this would not be the best diet to follow, for me to stick with the American Heart Association recommendations. I do not like their diet nor do I feel better when taking it.
When I was first diagnosed with cardio-myopathy eighteen plus years ago I found a site, Pillie-Willie, which had a diet, exercise and supplement method of help reduce effects of the cardio myopathy. And I followed this protocol strictly, as I still do today. Part of their plan suggested limiting carbs. This makes sense from a couple angles as carbs require greater amounts of water to digest and use than do fats and proteins also the heart is a ketogenic muscle and cannot use carbs as a fuel source. Therefore limiting that while increasing ketones in the blood provide the heart much greater energy.
My wife is not a red meat fan. Which is funny as one of her favourite meals is spare-ribs or pork tenderloin. Both of which are red meat but she has been convinced by the pork marketing board that it is actually not a red meat, that it aligns with chicken! LOL It is funny how pork takes on so many different meanings, red meat, white meat, bad meat if you are jewish or muslim, for me though it is delicious meat second only to well aged Canadian beef.
When taken in totality, the studies, the anecdotal evidence and my gut feeling now has been supported indirectly by the latest protocols for drugs taken by folks like me. Jardience is the drug I was placed on quite a few years ago which is one that flushes sugars from my system. So carbs bad, flush them out is the understanding and when I spoke to my cardiologist at the time he finally agreed that I was right all along. Not an easy admission for the guy.
For several years now I eat the same thing for breakfast every day. Two choices exist on my menu, either Yogurt with whipping cream cocoa powder, beet root powder, cinnamon, cyan pepper, chia seeds, pecans and black berries od 2 eggs with heavy cream, bacon, a variety of aromatic vegetables, cheese and a teaspoon of androginous guy sauce.
Lunch is generally one of three things, a salad with two types of protein, a Thai soup with protein and no carbs or meat and cheese rollups, again with no carbs. Dinner typically is a meat and a salad or vegetables. My favourite would be a chuck-eye steak and salad. I could eat that every day, last week a pretty much did while I was in Florida by myself.
When I am eating with my wife it is necessary to change it up a bit, she does not like meat in general and salads only so far. So every so often she throws in pasta or rice and of course we have a pizza oven so I make pizza for us. All of these cause me to not feel as well, but she believes that its in my head.
This morning was yogurt, no lunch and this evening I am at a restaurant and hopefully htere is a keto option on the menu. I do not know if that makes me a champ but I will keep doing that regardless.
