Moore than another pretty face.

I cannot believe that after next week’s first presidential debate, Joe Biden will still be spoken of as the best candidate for the Democrats. In having the debate prior to the Democratic Convention, which is a first there is still the potential for Joe to step down and another candidate to step forward.

If Joe were to do an LBJ now and pull himself prior to the convention what qualities would a replacement need to display to revive Democrat chances at the ballot box? To me it seems the biggest need is to reverse the trend of under 50 black men from leaving the party. And next is to maintain Latinos in the party. Both are the main demographic of the inner city which is hemorrhaging to the right.

The need is for someone with executive experience. A person who can step right into the job, who has some serious creds of getting things done. Someone seen as taking action of the abortion front without being too end of termy. A person tough on crime, understanding of the military and with business experience. A candidate that can check the right progressive boxes while appealing to anti Orange folk in the centre.

Kamala ticks off the black candidate box, but clearly has not helped in steming the tidal flow towards the Republican Party of blacks and hispanics. Nor does she actually have any executive experience. As VP there is no decision making portion of the job. She also has a serious speaking issue with her cackle and inappropriate laughter when she is uncomfortable. Gavin Newsome has far too much California baggage. He is also not of colour. To step over Kamala and choose Newsome, the Democrats would be committing political suicide and could only be saved with a substantial ballot harvest/stuffing program the likes of which may finally bring it under scrutiny. Gavin has all the progressive cred anyone could expect, just not the right racial profile.

So, who could the Dems pick? Let’s take a look at Wes Moore. He is the Governor of Maryland. So right off the bat he ticks off a couple great boxes, Blue state governor covers a lot of ground. He’s a Rhodes Scholar. That would be a hit with the Bachelor of Wedding ring soccer moms in the burbs.

And he quickly guided the reopening of Baltimore’s harbour after the container ship disaster took down that bridge. Not only is it reopened but there has been very little news surrounding this event. Score one for the Governor.

But when you check his profile the thing that is most convincing that he could be the next Democratic candidate for President is that he is black. He has military experience, in fact he’s an 82nd airborne officer. Now there is some serious credibility. And the main city he has within his current jurisdiction is Baltimore, certainly the worst crime city in the US, so there’s that.

He has only been a Governor for two years. Which means there can be no stain of corruption yet to be found. And he is quite young. Only in his forties. Handsome, articulate and great in front of a crowd. Tough on crime, well as progressives understand this to be and in full support of Milephiprestone.

This is the guy.
