Asymmetry
Here in the Great White North, our government is working very hard to keep knowledge of the list of parliamentarians compromised by foreign governments from being known by us, the people of Canada. In that Canada is a Constitutional Monarchy whereby the people vote for their members of Parliament to represent their interests in our government it would seem important to know if the person you are choosing has allegiance to another country before our own.
It matters not that the possible MP is co-opted because of internal belief or external influence, if they are not allegiant to our country first, they should not be electable. Unfortunately, our Prime Minister does not hold this view. The list of compromised MP’s is heavily guarded by its secrecy level, if you want to see the list you have to be assigned a secrecy clearance level that would ever prevent one from disclosing who is on the list. Which would just make you complicate in the potential conspiracy against Canada.
The United States and its allies won what was called the Cold War with the Soviet Union in 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down signifying its end. The Soviets and their political system of oppression could not keep up with the financial demands of the race to build out a missile defence shield, affectionately known as the Star Wars program that Ronny Raygun the US President had began developing in the early to mid 1980’s. When completed this program would defend the west from any potential missile strike from hostile forces, rendering the Soviet’s vast supply of nuclear missiles irrelevant.
That it really did not exist other than in rhetoric and some well planted news stories does not matter. The Soviets were compelled to counter this threat as it possibly could exist and if it did provided for the largest existential threat to the survival of the country that her existed.
This was combined with the arming of the mujahideen in Afghanistan fighting the invaders from Russia led to the complete bankrupting of Soviet Russia and the breakup of the largest country ever assembled. The warfare that the US and its allies conducted against the Soviets would be considered asymmetric. They never met on the battlefield directly, indeed since 1945 there has been no great power conflict. This was a war won on many other fronts like disinformation. Or through consumer goods, as McDonalds and Levis became things that the citizens of the USSR wanted.
Today is no different. Well except that the asymmetry is being directed at us, no longer by us. We are very much at war and the enemy is beating us handily by keeping us preoccupied in the same way the US did to the Soviets. Back in the 1970’s and 1980’s we used consumer goods and music to distract the soviet population from what their governments wanted them to hear to what we wanted them to want. Today we are being distracted by the climate emergency, the pandemic emergency, the fentanyl emergency and the gun emergency and a myriad of other events meant to focus us on anything but what is really going on.
And now we have a list of our leadership that is complicit in the propagation of the asymmetry but we are being kept in the dark. I am a firm believer in the credo that the simplest answer usually is the right one. And in that the only conclusion one can draw from what is happening is that our Prime Minister is also compromised.
A US jounalist, Peter Schwiezer, wrote a book titled Red Handed where he chronicled the taking of monies from the Chinese by American and Canadain leadership. If Trudeau and Biden potentially are in the pockets of our enemies we must look at current events differently. Why the drive to net zero carbon, why decriminalize and then promote drug use, why the drive to remove the defence capability of law abiding citizens with ridiculous gun laws while reducing or eliminating penalties for criminal use of guns.
Homelessness, national self-flagellation over false indigenous peoples issues, over onerous regulation of resource extraction, the move away from cost effective production of electricity or the regulation or created dependency of our media are all examples of government doing things contrary to the well being of the citizenry and as such could potentially be construed to be due to foreign influence.
Is it possible that as a population we can wake up and change our coarse? If we look at the results of the recent European elections then maybe we can. The next 18 months will likely be the most crucial in the history of western liberal democracy since the defeat of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. We here in Canada have leadership that seems not to have ties to China or any other country in the Conservative Party. The Americans have the same in their ultimate Republican leadership although they have to rid themselves of some of their leaders such as the one in the senate.
We can win this asymmetric war we are in. It is not the Cold War with the Soviets, but the flaw that the enemy has is no different. Folks who are not free look to our liberty and desire it. Whether it is the right to buy what you want or say what you want. Or go where you want. These are the simple things we have that others covet while at the same time understanding that if they were to allow their citizen these freedoms they could not survive in power. So they must destroy our liberty to maintain their dominance. And as in the last days of the Soviet fall they are losing the internal fight at home.
China’s economy is in free fall. Not just recession, the collapse of the real estate sector the soon to collapse manufacturing sector and the still driving force of agricultural innovation reducing the need for farmers who must then move to the cities to find work hastening the building of these issues means their leadership is desperate. This places us in the west in the most precarious position we have ever been in. Russia truly can no longer be considered a great power, simply a client state of China. Iran can only sell their oil predominantly to China making them a client state. The latest will become Brazil. All these countries aligned against us two of which in open conflict
with the west.
If we can survive the next while and make the right choices we will prevail. But oh boy what a scary time we are entering. As Betty Davis said in All About Eve, ‘Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.’
